DUTCH HORIZONS: CATHARINA BOER & KEES VAN MEEL

Traveller

Beaten by fall wind,
scattering you  to what you are:
effaced  to dot.

Or worn on thermals,
sliding down rock to rock
for a prey in exotic area,

you cradle in a dream,
writing spans an arc
perhaps by love,
a song to those other.

And always something
is driving you forth
until it disappears from your eye.

Poe’s rebellion

Slowly we descended the spiralling staircase with bent backs
Gaslight smacked our shadows ominously against the walls
Bats drenched in yellow liquid looked at us
With their gluttonous little jaws glaring white teeth lurking
The setting downstairs a dripping candle on a wooden platform
With chair painted in dull black receding downward

The heavens threatened to fall down on us black snow came
Slowly on to the stage: Edgar Allan Poe’s silhouette suddenly
Fired words from a misty past full of Scottish sounds
Saw straight through the audience spread a smouldering mist
From which the raven appeared even blacker than the jet from his word:
Your Lenore is lost forever, you will find her Nevermore

The emptiness of stale air the croaking of the hoarse voice
The croaking raven tapping our poor heads it was too much
Too unbearable and crying disaster too loudly in this mouldy hole
And one of us – was it me? – sped towards Poe and pulled off the cloak

Stinking cloth was all that was left accompanied by screeching kraaa
Stumbling upward yelling at Downy Grove where
Poe’s black train full of raven’s feathers shot into an other hole
Leaving behind the letters N E V E R M O R E

Lăsând în urmă literele N I C I O D A TĂ
